Welcome to the NYC Book Club!

Welcome to the new book club site! I am hoping this will be an easier way to coordinate our monthly meeting and reduce all the e-mail trails. It is hard to believe that we are almost approaching the one year anniversary of our club and I found it only appropriate to make an official website!

The main goal of the blog is to provide a more convenient platform to quickly obtain information regarding club meeting dates and places, book suggestions, recommendations, wishlists, book reviews etc.,I am going to go through our past meetings and post the reviews/ratings of the books we have read thus far- get excited!

I think this will be a great medium for everyone to be able to really write their various thoughts about the books at a time that is most convenient for them and really start some interesting dialogue! Or not - you can use this website just to stay informed about the monthly book and meeting date - basically you can make it to be whatever you want!

As our book club continues to grow this website will help keep our virtual members better informed while attracting new bookies as well! DC/BOST/Aust can still chime in. It might be fun to actually have all our readings documented to reference/reflect on one day!

Anyway - happy reading! I love our book club and I love u guys!

September Book Club

Tittle: The Book Thief

Author: Markus Susak

The group met at 71 Irving Coffee near Gramercy Park. See reviews below!

October Book Club

Tittle: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Author: Stieg Larsson

The book club gathered at Catie's rooftop where glasses of wine were served overlooking the NYC skyline (see above pic). Hummus and pita wraps were inhaled - who could blame us.
After the rooftop the discussion carried on to Pleiades and Ardesia Wine Bar located nearby. The conversation was interesting because there was such a large opinion spectrum of the book. It just goes to show how everyone's likes can vary - but that is also what makes book club so fun - it might get you to read or think about something outside your box. I am trying to find the e-mail where we recorded the ratings. I promise as soon as I find it i will add to the blog!

Nov-Jan Book Club

Tittle: "The Help"

Autor: Kathryn Stockett

I think it is safe to say that everyone loved this book. It was a great mix of history, romance and drama set in the South during the civil rights movement. We found it only proper to meet at the bar Southern Hospitality on the upper east side to discuss the book. Abby thought it would be fun talk about book over mint juleps and G&T's-beverages often consumed throughout the book. I think it would be fun if we could all learn how to play bridge. There is something powerful and relaxing about a group of women getting together to talk about life over a game of cards. If anyone is intersted in taking bridge lessons or learing how to play blog below!

April Book Club

Book Tittle: The Emperor's Children

Author: Claire Messud

Book Club Meeting Date: Wednesday, April 21st
Location: Hudson Terrace @7:30PM 621 W. 46th St, New York, NY 10036

Minutes: We met at the Hudson Hotel instead of the Hudson Terrace due to the weather. It ended up being a beautiful place to host book club. We sat underneath heat lamps and drank delcious overpriced wine. It was very peaceful and a great scene to discuss the NY based book!

Unfortunatley, most of us did not enjoy the book. Jane, Kim, Abby and Christine all found it pretty awful. See reviews below!

Abby- I hated it and didnt read the book. Everytime i picked it up i was so bored. 1
Jane - I read it and it was not good - 2.5
Kim- The first chapter was pretty good but only have read two so far- in progress
Christine - I am halfway through but determined to finish - i am conflicted.
